ICC World Cup 2019 | Spirit in which the World Cup has been played has been unbelievable, opines Aaron Finch

Aaron Finch has stated that the spirit in which the World Cup has been played is unbelievable. Australia defied all the odds and made it to the semi-finals convincingly on the back of seven victories from eight games so far and are scheduled to play South Africa in their final group stage fixture.

Australia will lock horns with South Africa on Saturday which also happens to be the final group stage encounter of both the teams. This is also the first time when Steve Smith and David Warner will be facing South Africa since the ball-tampering scandal during a Test match in Cape Town. Finch stated that the incident is a history for now and everyone has moved on.

“I think everyone’s moved on. There’s definitely never any more or less motivation than international cricket itself. It’s coming to the business end of the World Cup. There’s not much more motivation needed from that,” Finch said, reported AFP.

Finch was delighted with the spirit in which the World Cup has been played and was certain that he would not have to keep his players in check in the high-voltage encounter.

“No, there will be no restraint needed. The spirit in which the World Cup has been played has been unbelievable. The sportsmanship, the camaraderie amongst the teams has been outstanding. I think Australians and South Africans are quite similar in a lot of ways. They are very competitive people, passionate about the game,” Finch added.

With South Africa being knocked out of the tournament already, they will battle for pride in their final encounter while Australia will look to maintain their top-most position on the points table with another win.
