Australia have called up Matthew Wade and Mitchell Marsh as cover for the injured Usman Khawaja and Marcus Stoinis. Khawaja suffered a hamstring injury during their final encounter against South Africa while Stoinis is having some side strain trouble and are awaiting the results of their scans.

The extent of their injury will only be known once the scan results are out and the participation of both the cricketers will only be determined after that. Wade and Marsh, who have been drafted into the side as cover, have already left for Birmingham, where the semi-final against England is scheduled to take place.

Though Stoinis and Khawaja are still a part of the 15-man Australian squad, their participation in the World Cup is in jeopardy, especially the southpaw’s. Khawaja’s injury looks a little serious as he looked in great discomfort in the encounter against South Africa and there are chances of him being ruled out of the tournament. Both Wade and Marsh and have been in good touch for Australia A and are expected to be a part of Australia’s squad if needed.

Australia have been marred by injuries as Shaun Marsh broke his arm during the practice session and had to be replaced by Peter Handscomb. It is also the second time in the tournament that Marsh has been called up as a cover for Stoinis as the latter suffered an injury after the loss to India. Australia would be hoping for their key players to recover on time as they wouldn’t want to make many changes in the playing XI ahead of the semi-final.
