Former English spinner Monty Panesar has claimed that MS Dhoni's calmness has helped Virat Kohli to express himself as a captain, praising the Indian wicket-keeper. Panesar also hailed the Indian pace attack, while praising the Indian team for their ability to adapt to situations quickly.

The Indian Cricket team under Virat Kohli has been one of the formidable forces in Cricket in the past few years. The Indian skipper has been lauded by former cricketers and experts alike, and thanks to his performances and captaincy, India stand tall on top of the ICC ODI rankings, hunting for their third World Cup victory.

However, former English left-arm spinner Monty Panesar, who was one of the architects of England's famous 2-1 victory over India in 2012, believes that MS Dhoni has been the primary reason behind Virat Kohli's calmness, allowing him to express himself. “Virat Kohli is able to express himself as a captain but the calmness behind that is MS Dhoni,” Panesar told ANI.

Speaking about the former Indian captain, Panesar also said Dhoni would love to end his career on a high winning the World Cup, citing that it would be the perfect farewell for him. "This is probably Dhoni’s dream because this could be his last one-day he plays and retires with winning the World Cup. I am sure he probably in the background wants to win the World Cup, have his final farewell,” he said.

Panesar lauded the Indian pace battery of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Shami, hailing their consistency and wicket-taking ability. The former English spinner also praised Virat Kohli's men's ability to adapt to different situations quickly, a quality which has been key to India's success of late.

“India have been performing very well. They played brilliant cricket (against Australia at the Oval). When they played Pakistan at Old Trafford, they batted first and posted a huge total. India are very adaptable at the moment. They are able to chase,” Panesar concluded.
