Mickey Arthur will have to apply afresh to have a chance of continuing as head coach, states Pakistan Cricket Board

PCB has told Mickey Arthur that the team’s performance over the past three years will be placed under scrutiny and the coach will have to apply as a fresh candidate to have a chance of continuing with his job. Pakistan’s dismal showing in the World Cup may lead to changes in the staff and captaincy.
Mickey Arthur has been Pakistan’s head coach for three years now but his present contract ended with the conclusion of their campaign in the ongoing ICC World Cup. While he has led the team to some success over the years including the coveted Champions Trophy, the World Cup is the defining tournament for any cricket team and the country failed to live up to expectations, getting knocked out in the round-robin stage.
The head coach had called for a meeting with PCB Chairman Ehsan Mani and Managing Director Wasim Khan to discuss his future with the team.
"The meeting was arranged on the request of Mickey Arthur who wanted to meet the chairman Ehsan Mani to discuss the performance of the team and his future with the national team. Arthur asked Mani what his plans were for him and whether they intended to continue with him,” a source told PTI, reported News18.
"Arthur was told that the PCB's Cricket Committee will be carrying out a robust appraisal of the team's performances in the last three years including the World Cup and if he (Arthur) was interested in continuing to work with the team he should apply afresh for the post of head coach," the source added.
The two team officials are in London to participate in ICC meetings. The coach reportedly also requested to be present in the executive meetings to present his perspective of how the team has performed in the past three years. Sarfraz Ahmed had recently expressed his desire to continue as the skipper but had stated the decision depends on the board. However, the officials are yet to make any such decisions according to the source.Â
The Managing Director has full authority to appoint the coaching staff of the team including the head coach as well as the selection committee and the captain after these powers were taken away from the PCB Chief.
