Indian all-rounder Vijay Shankar, who was sent back home from the World Cup due to a toe injury he sustained, is set to undergo tests at the National Cricket Academy to assess the injury. Shankar was subsequently replaced in the World Cup squad by Karnataka opener Mayank Agarwal.

Indian all-rounder Vijay Shankar is set to undergo tests at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) to assess the toe injury that he sustained during the World Cup, which incidentally cut his World Cup short. Shankar sustained the injury in the nets when he was hit on the toe by a venomous Jasprit Bumrah yorker.

"I will be going to the NCA tomorrow and will have it (toe) assessed. I will get to know the extent of the injury in the next three-four days," said Shankar, during the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) Season-4 launch on Saturday, as reported by Sportstar.

Shankar played three matches for India in the World Cup, scoring 58 runs and picking two wickets, including the one of Imam-Ul-Haq, which he picked up on his very first ball of the World Cup.

Shankar, who hasn't featured in any of the three seasons of TNPL till date, said that he was hopeful of making his debut in the T20 League this year.

"I hope to make my debut in the TNPL this year. I will hope to give my best to Chepauk Super Gillies if I get to play," he said.

The all-rounder was also full of praise for the league, which has helped in the developement of plenty of youngsters in and around Tamil Nadu. "Every year TNPL has made an impact in domestic circles. It's a great platform for many cricketers," Shankar said.

"I think whoever did well [in TNPL] have been picked for Tamil Nadu and have made their mark in IPL (Indian Premier League) so it's a good platform. Washi (Washington Sundar), Varun Charkravarthy, Murugan Ashwin... these guys are bedded into the IPL. I wish more cricketers [from TNPL] go on to play in the IPL." the Indian all-rounder concluded.

The fourth season of TNPL is set to get underway on July 19th.
