An elated Jonny Bairstow reckoned the tournament final as one hell of a game and sympathised with New Zealand for missing out by a whisker. The number of runs scored in the official overs and super over were same by both teams but England emerged victorious on virtue of scoring more boundaries.

England won a thrilling final in the super over, which also turned out to be the greatest World Cup final ever. Both the teams fought fire with fire and eventually, it was the number of boundaries scored by the teams that turned out to be a decider. The English side returned from the dead and emerged victorious for the very first time in the history of ODI cricket. Opener Jonny Bairstow sympathised with the New Zealand side and also reckoned the final as one hell of a game.

“Elated! Massive commiserations to New Zealand. One helluva game, edged one way and then another. What a helluva tournament. The way the guys came out in the Super Over, huge! Ben Stokes' performance was amazing. They bowled pretty well, they put us under heckuva lot of pressure. The ball was doing something,” said Bairstow, reported ESPNCricinfo.

Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes put up a match-winning stand after a batting collapse to get England on the brink of a win but the New Zealand bowlers bounced back emphatically once the keeper-batsman was dismissed. Bairtsow was elated to play a World Cup final at Lord’s with the home support as well.

“The way Jos and Stokes put together that partnership, it won us the game at the end of the day. What a special moment, what an atmosphere. To play at Lord's is one thing, to play at Lord's in a World Cup final is a completely different matter. To have friends, family and rest of the amazing fans -- it's difficult to put to words," Bairstow added.
