Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah were the only two Indians that were included by ICC in their team of the tournament despite India reaching the semifinals of the tournament. The team was dominated by players from the winning side of England and led by the Player of the Tournament Kane Williamson.

Even though India had a relatively successful World Cup campaign after they ended the round-robin stages as group leaders before narrowly losing out in the semifinals, ICC found only two players from the team good enough to be included in it’s 12 man squad of the tournament.

Stand out performer Rohit Sharma was the first name on the list after the Mumbaikar scored 647 runs in the mega event and ended as the leading run scorer, breaking several World Cup records on the way. He was partnered by opener Jason Roy whose 443 runs led England to becoming world champions while David Warner missed out even though he scored 646 runs for the Kangaroos in their semifinal run.

The middle order consisted of the runner-up captain Kane Williamson who had led the Black Caps from the front with his efficient strategies and 578 runs. He was followed by yet another Englishman Joe Root, after the 28- year old renowned for his composure was instrumental in his team’s glorious campaign, having 556 runs under his belt.

With 600+ runs and 11 wickets in what was a record breaking campaign for him, Shakib Al Hasan earned a place for him despite his country's poor showing and was followed by the World Cup final’s man of the match, Ben Stokes. The all-rounder was certainly England’s most consistent player throughout the mega event and was lauded as the hero behind their maiden triumph in the cricketing festival. Alex Carey completed the middle-order, also serving as the team’s wicket keeper.

As far as the bowling lineup is concerned, no spinner managed to earn a spot in the team as four pacers from the four different semi finalists were a part of the lineup. While headliner Mitchell Starc, who ended with a record 27 wickets to his name, surpassing Glenn McGrath’s tally of 26 in 2007 was certain to find his name on the sheet, World Cup debutant Jofra Archer partnered him in the pace-filled attack. His heroics in the final having defended a target of 16 in the super over will be remembered for years to come.

Kiwi pacer Lockie Ferguson was the tournament’s second highest wicket getter with 21 scalps and the second Black Caps player in the first XI. Men in Blue representative Jasprit Bumrah rounded off the list ater the world’s number one was his usual self throughout the tournament, not giving the batsmen much room to breath.

Trent Boult just failed to be included in the lineup after his pace bowling masterclasses could not take New zealand across the line, as he was named the team’s 12th man.
