Jofra Archer has revealed how Ben Stokes, Joe Root and Eoin Morgan inspired him to get the job done and backed him after being hit for a six. Archer also praised Morgan’s astute captaincy and the kind of trust he had in him despite being relatively new to international cricket.

After the match got tied, Jofra Archer had 15 runs to defend in one over and was rightly picked by England to do the job. Archer was doing well till the moment Jimmy Neesham smashed him for a maximum and the pressure shifted back on England. This is when Ben Stokes’ golden words helped him keep his cool and bring out the best.

“I actually went to Morgs first, I had an idea I was going to do it (bowl the Super Over) but I wanted to double check that he wanted me to do it,” said Archer as per an ICC release.

“I think it was going fine until the six, and then (Ben) Stokes told me even before the over: ‘Win or lose, today does not define you. Everyone believes in you.’ He came to talk to me because of that (Kolkata). He probably went through the same emotions, the same feelings but being on the losing side.

Stokes was left shattered and heartbroken when Carlos Brathwaite smashed four sixes in the World T20 final last year in Kolkata, where the all-rounder had 19 runs to defend. Stokes was aware of the pain and helped Archer not to panic and keep doing what he does the best.

“If we had lost today, I don’t know what I would have done tomorrow. To back up what he said, if we did lose there is a T20 coming up next year and I would have another chance,” Archer added.

Joe Root is known for his composure and he helped the young gun by saying that it is not the end of the world for them.

“Rooty came up to me and said some inspirational words as well. I knew that if we did lose, it wasn’t the end of the world. I am glad that the guys look up to me and they trust me to do it.”

Morgan was seen having continuous talk with Archer throughout the over and didn’t look unsettled at all. The English skipper has been as ice cold in pressure situations and Sunday was just an example of it.

“The skipper (Eoin Morgan) really believed in me, even after the six. A lot of captains could have had their head in their hands, but he was really calm and really understanding,” Archer said of Morgan.
