Indian selectors will announce the squad that would be visiting the Carribean in a tour that would span series across all the three formats of the game on July 19. Some senior players might be rested, while Dhoni is yet to announce a decision on his future and Dhawan’s recovery status is unknown.

After their World Cup campaign ended in heartbreak, the Indian team will be touring the West Indies to play three games in both the formats of white ball cricket followed by two test matches. It would be interesting to see whether MS Dhoni will feature in the team for the limited overs matches after there have been widespread rumours that he might retire following a criticism filled World Cup.

“The selectors will meet in Mumbai on July 19. We have not heard from Dhoni but what is relevant is the communication between the player and selectors. If you ask me, Dhoni did well in the World Cup but he is his own man. Only he can decide whether he wants to carry on or not,” a BCCI official was reported saying by the Times of India.

Skipper Virat Kohli and pacer Jasprit Bumrah might not take part in the T20Is and ODIs that are scheduled to start from the third of August. However, they might return to the team for the red ball matches, with the two tests set to be a part of the inaugural World Test Championships. The first test will commence on the 22nd of August. Meanwhile, Shikhar Dhawan is thought to be still recovering from his thumb injury and is doubtful for the tour.

These matters were discussed in the Committee of Administrators’ meeting alowith whether players should be allowed to choose the games they participate in, both internationally and in the domestic circuit. The issue was first raised when Dhoni and Dhawan seeked rest from domestic matches ahead of the World Cup.

“The question arises that who is allowing the players to pick and choose? Are they taking the call themselves or are they duly informing the selectors? The general feeling is that there needs to be better communication on this issue. You can’t pick and choose. Most World Cup bound players played all the games in the IPL and did not ask for rest back then," another BCCI official was quoted saying.
