In what could turn out to be a massive reshuffle, BCCI might consider the possibility of handing over Rohit Sharma the permanent ODI captaincy, according to reports. Rohit has served as the deputy for Virat Kohli in ODIs, and has also led his franchise Mumbai Indians to three IPL titles.

Following India's agonizing 18-run defeat against the Kiwis in the semi-final, questions have been raised about skipper Virat Kohli's captaincy and decision making. Be it the questionable call to send in Dhoni at no.7, or the move to drop Kuldeep and Shami, Kohli has been under fire for the decisions he has taken. This is also the second major 50-over tournament India have failed to win under Kohli, after losing in the final of the 2017 Champions Trophy to arch rivals Pakistan.

The defeats have prompted several experts to tout vice-captain Rohit Sharma to take over ODI captaincy, and now sources close to the BCCI have informed that the BCCI might indeed look into handing Rohit the ODI captaincy, while allowing Kohli to retain Test and T20I captaincy, which will mean a split captaincy module.

While it has been widely reported that the Committee of Administrators (CoA) will review the performance of India's World Cup campaign in a meeting, several people, inlcuding memebers of the CoA, Diana Edulji and Ravi Thodge said that they were unaware of any such meeting taking place.

However, in case the meeting does happen, several aspects of Indian Cricket, including the performance of coaches are set to be discussed. Now it is also being reported that a potential captaincy split between Rohit and Kohli might be discussed in the meeting, with several people feeling that Rohit will be the right man to take up the job, having a proven track record.

"This would be the right time for Rohit to take over the mantle of captaincy in the 50-over format," a board functionary said to IANS, as reported by Times of India.

"There has been immense support to the present captain and the management, and it is time to plan ahead for the next World Cup; and for that, the existing ideas and plans need a fresh look. We all know some areas need a re-look. Rohit would be the right man for the job," the functionary said," the functionary added.

Rohit has led India in 10 ODIs till date, with the last one being against New Zealand at Wellington, earlier this year.
