Sachin Tendulkar was all praise for New Zealand captain Kane Williamson as he explained the manner in which manages to stay calm and positive irrespective of the situation. He further revealed what he told him after the final while admiring his efforts in leading the Black Caps to the final.
Kane Williamson has been receiving love and respect from all the corners of the world after his heroic performances in the World Cup just fell short of securing a World Cup for his team. However, he did manage to win the Player of the Tournament trophy due to his efficient strategies and 578 run haul in the tournament, beating the likes of Shakib Al Hasan, Rohit Sharma and Mitchell Starc to the honour.Â
He received the award from Sachin Tendulkar soon after England were announced as World Champions, and the little maestro had some kind words for him.
âYour game was appreciated by all and you had a great World Cup," Tendulkar said to Williamson while handing out the trophy, reported Indian Express.
In a recent interview with 100Mb, the cricketing legend has gone on to reveal how impressed he was with Williamsonâs performance. Though he must have been distraught after losing because of such fine margins, the Kiwi captain managed to keep his cool throughout.
"The best thing about Williamson is his ability to stay calm. He doesn't lose his composure in any circumstance. It was unfortunate that he could not win the World Cup but it did not reflect on his face," Tendulkar stated.
Apart from his multiple centuries that saved New Zealand from tough situations, it was his composed demeanour that caught the eyes of most. His ability to read the game and take the correct decisions in pressure situations are what defined New Zealandâs whole tournament. The 28 year old has played more than 250 international games and the experience was evident in the way he handled the circumstances.
"Williamson sees the game from an entirely different perspective. His field placements, bowling changes while defending a low score are commendable. Even when (Ravindra) Jadeja was playing big shots in the semi-final, he was calm and in the end, the result was in his favour," Tendulkar concluded.
