In a surprising move, Sunrisers Hyderabad have parted ways with their championship-winning coach Tom Moody, and have appointed England’s outgoing coach Trevor Bayliss. The move has taken everyone by surprise as Bayliss was reported to have signed up with Kolkata Knight Riders once again.

After landing England their maiden World Cup title, Trevor Bayliss has become a hot-shot name for a coaching role and in all certainty, he was supposed to join the Kolkata-based franchise, with whom he had worked in the past during the team’s two title-winning runs. Even KKR’s former team director Joy Bhattacharjya wrote on his Twitter handle that Bayliss was going to take over the role, with Brendon McCullum as the team’s batting mentor.

However, Sunrisers Hyderabad put a tweet on their official Twitter handle today, announcing the Aussie would take over from Tom Moody who helped Sunrisers Hyderabad win the title in 2016. In 2018, the franchise also reached the final under Moody’s guidance but the team didn’t make any announcement as to why the team decided to part ways with the veteran coach.

Bayliss has an accomplished record to his name as a coach and he, alongside Andrew Strauss and Eoin Morgan, changed the ethos of England’s modern-day ODI batsmanship before landing them the ultimate prize in the sport. In 2011, under his guidance, Kumar Sangakkara helped Sri Lanka reach the final where they eventually lost to India.

In the T20 arena, he has quite a successful career as a coach too. Bayliss was at the helm of affairs when Kolkata won their IPL titles, in 2012 and 2014, and helped Sydney Sixers win Big Bash League and Champions League T20.
