Martin Guptill has revealed that it is taking him time to come to terms with the result of last week’s ICC World Cup 2019 final against England which New Zealand lost by the finest of margins. The Kiwi opener was involved in two game-changing moments which proved to change the course of the match.

The members of the New Zealand cricket team were left heartbroken at the final outcome as they fell to a defeat against World Cup hosts’ England at Lord’s last Sunday. Nothing separated both teams after the end of 100 overs which took the match to a Super Over. Chasing 16, the Kiwis ended the Super Over on a tie too but England were crowned World Champions as they scored more boundaries than their opponents over the course of the two innings and the Super Over.

New Zealand opener, Martin Guptill, revealed that he is yet to completely come to terms with the end product of the recent World Cup final but thanked the fans for their never-ending support and love.

"Hard to believe it's been a week since that incredible Final at Lords. I think it was both the best and worst day of my cricketing life! So many different emotions, but mainly proud to represent New Zealand and play for the Black Caps alongside a great group of mates. Thank you to everyone for all your support, it has been amazing," Guptill said in an emotional Instagram post on Tuesday.

Guptill, who produced a stunning run-out of India’s MS Dhoni in the semi-final win, was again involved in two game-changing moments in the final against Eoin Morgan & Co. Needing nine from three deliveries, Guptill's throw from deep mid-wicket region struck a diving Stokes' bat in the final over which saw the ball race away to the boundary behind the wicketkeeper and gave England crucial six runs bringing the equation.

When the match went into the Super Over, Guptill and James Neesham were given the responsibility to score 16 off 6 balls to bring New Zealand home their maiden World Cup. By the end of the over, Guptill was on strike with his side needing two runs off one ball but he could only manage to dig out a single and tie the game which meant the English won the title on home soil for the very first time.
