Jhye Richardson has entered the latter stages of his rehabilitation after having suffered a nasty shoulder injury and could make his return to Test cricket in the final phase of the Ashes series. Richardson has played two Test matches for Australia wherein scoring 123 runs and picking six wickets.

Promising Australian pacer Jhye Richardson showed great promise when he made his domestic cricket debut back in 2015. It didn’t take him long for him to make an appearance with the national team as he made his T20I debut in February 2017 against Sri Lanka. The  22-year old went on to play his first Test match for Australia earlier this year in January against the Lankans itself.

Richardson suffered a nasty shoulder dislocation ahead of the ICC World Cup 2019 which ruled him out of contention for a World Cup spot. However, recent reports have suggested that the talented pacer has entered the final stages of rehabilitation and can feature towards the end of the upcoming Ashes series on British soil.

"Jhye Richardson has had scans on his right shoulder to assess the extent of his injury. The scans demonstrated the usual soft tissue damage we expect following a dislocation but fortunately has excluded any bone damage or fracture. We are hopeful that Jhye will not require surgery but he will see a shoulder specialist early next week for a further opinion. We will be able to provide an update in respect to next steps once we have all the information on the table,"  team doctor Richard Saw was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo.

Earlier, Australia coach Justin Langer had declared that there are no doubts about Richardson’s quality as Australia began preparation for the recently concluded World Cup which England went on to win.

"Probably a bit more of a cloud over him to be honest. We'll just keep monitoring him. He's played a lot of cricket leading up to his accident. He's doing everything possible with his rehab. He's a little ripper," Langer had said earlier before the start of the World Cup.
