Australia spinner Adam Zampa has been handed a reprimand by ICC over an ‘audible obscenity’ that was caught on tape during Australia's 15-run World Cup win over the Windies. The 27-year-old admitted to the level-one offence and one demerit point has been added to his disciplinary record.
Australia got lucky as bowling all-rounder Nathan Coulter-Nile hammered 92 from 60 balls batting at number eight after Steve Smith (73) and Alex Carey (45) helped Australia recover from 38/4 at one point in the innings to reach a total of 288 in 49 overs. Pacer Mitchell Starc starred with the ball by picking up five wickets as West Indies could only manage 273/9 in the second innings.
However, Aussie spinner Adam Zampa was handed a reprimand by the International Cricket Council (ICC) after using an “audible obscenity” in Australia's 15-run World Cup win over Jason Holder & Co. The incident happened at the end of the 29th over of the West Indies innings at Trent Bridge on Thursday.
The leg-spinner admitted to the level-one offence and one demerit point has been added to his disciplinary record. As per ICC rules, when a player reaches four or more demerit points within a 24-month period, they are converted into suspension points and a player is banned from international cricket.
The 27-year-old picked up one wicket for 58 as Australia maintained its 100 per cent record at the ongoing ICC World Cup 2019.
