Virat Kohli and Aaron Finch have expressed their displeasure over the unfair bail controversy, referring to the instance when Jasprit Bumrah’s delivery to David Warner hit the stumps but the ‘zing bails’ failed to dislodge. There have been multiple instances of similar nature in this World Cup.

In the World Cup encounter between India and Australia on Sunday, Jasprit Bumrah’s delivery to David Warner edged his bat and managed to hit the stumps but the bails failed to dislodge from its groove. The Indian team did not look very amused by it and Virat Kohli expressed his displeasure over it.

“Definitely. This is not something you expect at international level. The technology is great. It’s very precise when you make something happen with the stumps. But you literally have to smash the stumps really hard to knock them out. That’s me as a batsman saying that,” he told reporters, reported AFP.

“These are fast bowlers, these are not medium-pace bowlers. We checked and the stump was not knocked in very hard so I don’t know what’s going on. Is the stump too thick or too rigid? No team will like to see that, if you bowl a good ball and you don’t get a guy out. I haven’t seen that happen so many times in the past."

Sunday’s game was not the first instance of such an event taking place in this World Cup. South Africa’s Quinton de Kock while playing against England and even Sri Lanka’s Dimuth Karunaratne against New Zealand were reprieved in a similar fashion. The Australian team too was on the wrong side in the encounter against West Indies, where Chris Gayle turned out to be lucky against Mitchell Starc. Aaron Finch has also expresed his displeasure over this particular issue.

“Yeah, I think so. We were on the right end of it today, but I think going forward it is a bit unfair at times. It hit the stumps pretty hard. It does seem to be happening more and more, which is unfortunate,” he reckoned.

“I’m not sure what they can do. I don’t know how much lighter they can make the bails. You would hate to see something like that happen in a World Cup semi-final or final when you have done the hard work to set up the batsman."

The ICC (International Cricket Council) uses zing bails for its international matches which contain lights that flash when the ball hits the wicket. However, ICC has defended it by claiming that these bails are lighter than the traditional wooden bails.
