India’s fielding coach R Sridhar has stated that Jasprit Bumrah has improved drastically on the field and is probably one of the hardest workers. Being a fast bowler, it’s very difficult to be electrifying on the field but Bumrah has debunked the myth with his athleticism and diligence.

Jasprit Bumrah’s prowess with the ball is well-known across the globe but very few people must be aware of his rise as a fielder. Since his inception into the national side, Bumrah’s career graph as a fielder has only seen a hike. He is hardly seen dropping any catches and hasn’t been a liability on the field, which is common with Indian fast bowlers. India’s fielding coach R Sridhar has stated that Bumrah is one of the most improved fielders in recent years as long as fielding is concerned.

"Bumrah is probably one of the hardest workers as far as fielding goes. From when he joined the team in 2016 to what he is now, he's a massive improvement, although still a work in progress, but a massive improvement," said Sridhar, reported PTI.

Bumrah has been the reason behind nightmares for many batsmen but the same confidence went for a toss when it came to fielding. However, the pacer has pulled his socks up on that front and has seen massive development.

"The mindset of the players combined with the increased levels of fitness, and then we can chip in with the technical aspect of fielding and the awareness and anticipation part. So combining all this definitely helps them improve their fielding skills," Sridhar said.

Sridhar also shed light on how Bumrah, Kedar Jadhav and Yuzvendra Chahal, who aren’t naturally athletic, are eager to drill hard on their fitness. And the results are there for everyone to be seen. Chahal is one of the quick fielders in the line-up while one doesn’t need to hide Kedar on the field.

"One area is we try to educate them with awareness with respect to fielding, and we try to work on fitness. Obviously, (Shankar) Basu (strength and conditioning coach), works a lot on their fitness as well. We've got a lead-up to this tournament to work with Chahal, Bumrah, Kedar, guys like this, who are willing to work really hard and to work on their skills. So that really helped," Sridhar added.
