After Shikhar Dhawan was ruled out of the World Cup, BCCI has requested the ICC to allow Rishabh Pant as a replacement in the team. The southpaw was rushed as a cover just two days after Dhawan suffered the blow and Pant also trained with the Indian team in Manchester ahead of the Pakistan match.

Pant’s exclusion from the 15-man World Cup squad was one of the biggest talking points on social media and when he was drafted in as a standby, the calls for his inclusion was at a fever pitch. Dhawan’s injury has somehow satiated that section of fans as BCCI has sent in a formal request to the ICC in order to have him in the squad.

Dhawan was in Southampton today during India’s training session and he was seen with his left hand being wrapped in bandages. As per reports on ESPN Cricinfo, he was supposed to see a doctor before a final decision by the selectors.

Sunil Subramaniam, while confirming that Dhawan is out from competitive cricket for the next one month, has added that Pant has been drafted into the squad with the board having already sent a formal request to the ICC.

The Delhi wicketkeeper was a part of India’s series against Australia last March and has been touted as a future prospect to fill up MS Dhoni’s colossal shoes as a wicket-keeper batsman.
