Despite scoring 333/8 while chasing, Bangladesh fell short by 48 runs in a high-scoring encounter against Australia. Tamim Iqbal feels that the untimely wickets of in-form Shakib Al Hasan and himself along with the team’s overall inexperience in chasing big scores was the cause for their loss.
Although Bangladesh came into the game with an excellent batting form, chasing Australia’s 381 seemed like a mountain too steep to climb. Tamim Iqbal, who scored a 74-ball 62 at the top, felt that his side suffered from inexperience in chasing mammoth scores.Â
"The truth is that we don't have much experience of chasing big totals," Tamim was quoted telling reporters after the match.Â
Tamim felt that the best approach was to set up the last 20 overs as a T20 run chase.Â
"I was not looking at the scoreboard but the way I was planning was that if we can score around 180-200 runs in 30 overs then in the last twenty overs we would be able to take some chances," he said.
But, the southpaw correctly noted that they lost crucial wickets at the wrong time. Bangladesh looked steady at 102/1 in the 19th over, when they lost the in-form Hasan for 41. Just as they recovered, they lost Iqbal in the 25th over.Â
"I got out when me and Mushfiqur were going well while Shakib also got out when we were building a good partnership. We played well but could have played better if we didn't lose wickets at the wrong times," he added.
