VIDEO | Knowing MS Dhoni, Peter Handscomb instantly walks back after missing the ball down the track
MS Dhoni’s charisma as a wicket-keeper will forever be a part of India’s folklore and Kuldeep Yadav will take the lead bowler position in those efforts. Today, Peter Handscomb was at the receiving end of the same as he was so sure that he didn’t even look back after being stumped by Dhoni.
After conceding a four on the first ball of the 30th over, Kuldeep brought the game back by dragging his length back which created some sort of problems to the duo of Glenn Maxwell and Handscomb. They were trying to find that one loose ball which would allow them to wrest some momentum, and in a desperate move to do that, Handscomb decided to charge down the track on the last ball of the over.
It was a slow ball - as slow as 73.9kph - which deceived Handscomb in the flight as it drifted away and Handscomb missed the shot altogether. The right-hander went down the track and he was so clueless that he was nowhere close to the ball when the ball dipped and the huge gap between his bat and the pad was exposed. MS Dhoni was standing close to the stumps like he always does to a spinner and when the ball turned through the gap between bat-pad, Dhoni instantly disturbed the furniture behind the Victorian to send the fourth batsman of the Aussie team back to the hut.Â
While that was a normal Dhoni stumping what struck the most was Handscomb - who in that Cricket Australia MS Dhoni captaincy tribute video spoke glowingly about Dhoni’s keeping - didn’t even look back if his stump was safe or not. He directly walked back to the pavilion, ending an innings that promised a lot but delivered a little.Â
