Just when you think you have seen MS Dhoni pull off everything - from no look run outs to sub-second stumpings - he keeps giving you something new everyday. Today, he managed to run out Glenn Maxwell with a no-look-cum-deflected effort after Ravindra Jadeja’s incredible effort in the field.

After two subpar displays with the bat in the ongoing series, Australia’s cause was helped by the curator of the JSCA International stadium with a belter of a wicket. The Aussie openers took full advantage of the situation with an opening partnership of 193 runs in just under 32 overs before Aaron Finch was dismissed. With Usman Khawaja departing just after completing his maiden ODI ton, the visitors were still in a great position thanks to Maxwell, who was scoring at over 100 run strike rate. India needed a moment of magic and Dhoni, like always, was ready to provide it.

On the last ball of the 42nd over, Kuldeep Yadav bowled a length delivery outside the off stump for Shaun Marsh. The Aussie went back onto his backfoot before pushing the ball towards cover. Jadeja, who was stationed in the vicinity, managed to put in a dive to stop the ball before he could get his head up and aim at the stumps. As good as the stop was, the throw left more to be desired but when you have Dhoni behind the stumps, all you need to do is give him a chance.

Dhoni, who had moved up to the stumps realized that he could not wait for the ball to come to him and he needed to improvise. And that is just what he did. He extended his right hand across the stumps and managed to just deflect the ball into the wickets to catch Maxwell short.

While Dhoni’s run out of Ross Taylor in 2016 was seen as one of the best pieces of keeping in modern day cricket, this one is right up there thanks to the improvisation of arguably the greatest wicketkeeper in the world.
