Kolkata Knight Riders’ spin coach, Carl Crowe, has claimed the Windies spinner Sunil Narine has recovered from a finger injury and looks in good shape ahead of the start of this year’s IPL season. Crowe further lavished praise on India’s Kuldeep Yadav for his recent success in international cricket.

Sunil Narine was a central figure in the rise of Kolkata Knight Riders under the leadership of Gautam Gambhir where the team won two IPL crowns in three years. However, the rise of the likes of Kuldeep Yadav and Andre Russell has eased the pressure on Narine as far as the bowling aspect of the team is considered. Narine’s bowling action was found to be suspect on multiple occasions in the last few years after which he had to undertake corrective measures under Carl Crowe, who is now a part of KKR’s coaching staff.

Crowe reckons that Narine has recovered from a finger injury and is raring to go ahead of the start of the 2019 season of the Indian Premier League.

“Sunil couldn’t play in the PSL (Pakistan Super League) due to a finger injury. But he looks in good shape and ready to go. I think his performance level has always been of high quality. Moreover, now he contributes with the bat too.

”Sunil had a cracking start in the IPL in the first few years. He took wickets. But it is not always easy to modify your action and maintain the high standards. But credit to Sunil because he did it. Sunil has just returned from an injury. Returning from injury, it is all about getting it right. Being well prepared and getting good amount of rest,” 43-year old Crowe told PTI.

Narine was one of the leading stars in the 2012 and 2014 editions of the IPL which the KKR franchise ended as champions. Having made his debut in 2012, the Caribbean star has picked up a total of 112 wickets from 98 matches in the IPL. Crowe further went on to heap praise for another talented spinner in the KKR arsenal in the form of India youngster - Kuldeep Yadav. The Englishman said that Yadav’s calmness has helped him achieve good results of late.

“I have been with KKR for the last two-three years and it’s been quite a bit of time working with Kuldeep. I have seen his progress and one thing that has impressed me is how grounded and calm he is.He is not afraid to be hit and that’s his good quality. As a spinner if you have the attitude, if you have that control then it always helps,” added Crowe.
