According to a PTI report, Ravi Shastri will have to undergo a fresh recruitment process by BCCI even if he manages to win the World Cup for he doesn’t have a clause for renewing it. Shastri, along with Sanjay Bangar and Bharat Arun, will see their contract end on the very last day of the World Cup.

BCCI has stopped putting a clause of extension in contracts since Anil Kumble’s time as the head coach of India, a system that is followed by most big football or NBA clubs around the world. Hence, even though Shastri will be the prime candidate to continue as India’s coach after his contract would be ending, BCCI would reportedly need to have free recruitment process.

"From Anil Kumble's time, the service contract of the coaches and support staff don't have an extension or renewal clause. Therefore, even if India win the World Cup under Shastri's coaching, he will have to come through the fresh recruitment process even though he will be a direct entry into the shortlisted panel as current coach," a senior BCCI official, privy to the development, told PTI.

Consequently, after Shastri’s tenure is over BCCI would have to follow the protocol and put up advertisements on its website for the various empty positions of support staff after Shastri and his support staff’s contract is over.

"Shastri, Sanjay Bangar (batting coach), Bharat Arun (bowling coach) and R Sridhar (fielding coach), their contracts will end with India's last match in the World Cup. With only 14 days left for the inaugural World Test Championship matches against the West Indies, we need to complete the process in due time. But everything will happen after the World Cup," he said.

However, the source has also assured that the chances of Shastri getting replaced are very little and would happen even if the Indian team managed to reach the semis of the World Cup. Under Shastri’s management, the Indian team has had some monumental achievements like beating Australia in a Test series in their own backyard for the first time in 71 years, apart from winning the ODI series in South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.

It was also revealed that the very first mini-IPL for women would have three teams and four games on a round-robin basis.

"The Indian women's coach WV Raman and the national selectors have given 30 names and there will be 12 foreign players. So there will be three teams of 14 players each and they will play once against each other and then the final," the official said.
