Prithvi Shaw has said that he will have a lot fun while opening the innings for Delhi Capitals in the ongoing IPL alongside Shikhar Dhawan. The Mumbai top-order batsman, who had to stay out of action due to an injury, wants to play his game and win matches for the Delhi unit this year.

Delhi Capitals will start their IPL season 12 campaign from the second game of the day today when they will meet Mumbai Indians. The team from the national capital traded three players from the last season with Sunrisers Hyderabad to bring in Dhawan which will strengthen their top-order. Young Shaw is excited with the prospect of opening the innings alongside the left-hander with whom he missed out on opening in the Windies Test series last year.

“It’s going to be fun opening the batting with Shikhar Dhawan. He’s already got a lot of experience in the IPL and he will definitely share his tips with the youngsters. Let’s see how it goes,” Shaw told Hindustan Times.

Shaw is a part of the team that has probably one of the best, if not the best, Indian core in the competition with Shreyas Iyer leading the team. The team has the likes of Rishabh Pant, Abhishek Sharma, among others to make it a solid top-order. To go with that, the newly-renamed franchise also has a terrific backroom unit with Sourav Ganguly and Ricky Ponting being the mentor and head coach respectively.  Shaw is very ecstatic about that and ready to take a leaf out of their book.

“I just want to go there and play my game. I just want to go there and win games for Delhi Capitals as much as I can. We have got an experienced support staff, who has already played 15-20 years of international cricket. We are really excited to work under them and get a new experience.”

After suffering an ankle injury during a practice match before the Test series against Australia, Shaw was forced out of action for three months. However, Shaw had undergone rehabilitation in the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru and was declared fit following which he took part in the Syed Mushtaq Ali tournament. Now that he is back in the IPL, he thanked the NCA for his injury management.

“My rehabilitation process was very good. The trainers and physios in NCA, Bangalore motivated me a lot. They pushed me and they wanted me to be fit before the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Accordingly, I trained during the process,” the Mumbaikar concluded.
