Rishabh Pant, after his unbeaten knock of 78 in just 27 balls, has said that his plan was to increase the run rate for his team, and he did exactly that by smashing towering sixes. The young batsman also stated that he would be happy to bat in any position, as per the requirements of the team.

Delhi Capitalsā€™ young wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant took the Mumbai Indians' bowling attack to the cleaners, as he smackedĀ seven sixes and as many fours, finishing with a strike rate of over 288. The batsman showcased excellent skills as he managed to create room and even hit Jasprit Bumrahā€™s toe-crushing yorker for a huge six.

This match-winning knock will make a strong case for Pant going into the World Cup, especially after his poor show in the ODI series against Australia. However, the batsman has revealed that he had no specific position as such and would be continuing to bat where his team would want him to.

ā€œWell, I am glad to bat anywhere the team wants me to,ā€ said the Man of the match, reported PTI.

ā€œItā€™s been a great journey, Iā€™m trying to learn every day of my cricketing career. It feels good when your team wins. I always play according to the situation most of the time. This time I needed to increase the run rate for the team, and I took my chances, and it came off today. Especially in T20, you have to do something different. When the bowler cramps you for room, you need to make your own room,ā€ said the 21- year-old.

Accepting that he committed mistakes in the first innings Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma did not fail to acknowledge Pantā€™s innings and heaped praise on the batsman. ā€œFirst game is always a bit of a challenge for most of the teams. Lot of new players in the squad as well. We made a lot of mistakes today, as simple as that. We were pretty much in the game in the first 10 overs when we were bowling, but the way Rishabh batted, youā€™ve got to give him credit,ā€ said the 31-year-old.

Yuvraj Singh was the only batsman to score a fifty in the Mumbai camp, while others were unable to hold the innings. Their bowlers were also taken to the cleaners, as the Shreyas Iyer led side scored 213 in 20 overs.

ā€œThe combination might change for the next game. We want to see what combination the opposition plays and then decide. The ball was still coming on well when we batted. We ended up getting 180, still. Nobody went on to get a big score. Yuvi batted brilliantly, and there were a few cameos. If one of the top three or four had scored 70-80, things would have been different,ā€ signed off Sharma.
