Dinesh Karthik has stated that he got angry during the encounter between Kolkata Knight Riders and Kings XI Punjab on Friday in order to get the best out of the boys. The skipper had a very animated chat with his teammates during the first strategic time-out as he was irked by their body language.

In Friday’s encounter, Kolkata Knight Riders put Kings XI Punjab to bat first and won their second game on the trot to keep their playoff hopes alive. Things started exceedingly well for KKR as they sent back the opening duo of KL Rahul and Chris Gayle to the pavilion within five overs itself. However, every batsman in the middle order made notable contributions which took KXIP’s total to 183. Skipper Dinesh Karthik was not very happy about the fact that the bowlers and fielders allowed them to make a comeback despite claiming the two most important wickets. He had an animated chat in between the overs as even the coach Jacques Kallis was standing there helplessly.

“We live to fight another day. It's been a hard few days. I wasn't too happy with the what the bowlers and the fielders were doing, so I thought I should let the boys know what I felt at that time. It is rare, not many people have seen me angry. If I feel I need to be angry to get the best out of the boys, then maybe,” said Karthik at the post-match presentation ceremony, reported Cricbuzz.

All-rounder Sam Curran, who was dropped on 17 by Rinku Singh, wreaked havoc on the bowlers as he smashed seven fours and two sixes on his way to 55 in just 24 balls, 22 of which came in Harry Gurney’s last over. The skipper credited the 20-year-old for his innings but felt that they gave away too many runs in the penultimate over.

“The last over went for 10 runs too many, but we have to give it to Sam Curran. IPL is that kind of a tournament where someone comes in and scores runs for you, so there's that balance,” the 33-year-old expressed.

Shubman Gill was sent down the order for the first few matches but has been in fine form after finding back his spot as an opener. The youngster was awarded the Man of the Match for his unbeaten knock of 65 in 49 deliveries. The skipper was delighted that Gill played a mature innings and stayed till the end to take the team through.

“It's fair that we have given Gill a chance at the top of the order, and he has grabbed the opportunity with both hands,” stated the World Cup-bound player.

Karthik, in the end, was delighted with the victory in Mohali as they chased down the target with two overs remaining which gave a major boost to their net run rate.

“It's a big ground, but we did the small things well. Ran well, put pressure on the bowler, and good execution on the batsmen,” he signed off.

KKR will play their final league game against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium tomorrow. A win in the match along with other results going their way can still enable them to qualify for the playoffs.
