While MS Dhoni’s success can be attributed to his understanding of the game, it can’t be discounted that he has been lucky at times too. It helped him today in a big way as after his flying bat sent him packing in the 20th over, only to be stopped when replays showed Jasprit Bumrah had over-stepped.

It was MS Dhoni zone yet again and going by the facts, in the 20th over itself, the CSK skipper had scored an incredible 558 runs off 229 balls with 39 fours and 46 sixes in the IPL. Going into the 20th over, notwithstanding the fact that Jasprit Bumrah was in front of him, CSK fans would have hoped for an MS special. However, Bumrah is too good a bowler to be discounted just like that.

On the first delivery of the 20th over, Bumrah bowled a pacy and full delivery on the off and Dhoni, as usual, found it to be in the zone to go hard at it. However, he totally lost control over the shot and in the process, he lost his grip. While the ball went towards backward point, the bat moved towards fine leg.

Ishan Kishan, who was stationed at backward point, took a smart catch by reverse cupping it in front of his face, leaving the CSK dug-out silenced. However, a small ray of hope arose among CSK fans when the umpire Nigel Llong asked Dhoni to wait as he decided to check for overstepping. When the replays came on the giant screen, it made CSK fans go berserk as Bumrah had just overstepped a bit and Dhoni continued his batting.
