Saurashtra Cricket Association has released a statement saying Cheteshwar Pujara will be available for the inaugural edition of the Saurashtra Premier League which begins in Rajkot from May 14. SCA has also added that the final decision about Pujara representing which team will be taken on Thursday.

Pujara has been contracted by Yorkshire to play for them as an overseas professional and was supposed to join them in May, but he decided to stay back and play the first edition of the Saurashtra Premier League. Despite being branded as a Test specialist, Pujara is participating in different T20 leagues, including the DY Patil T20 Cup, which is annually held in Navi Mumbai.

Pujara's availability for the SPL was informed by the Saurashtra Cricket Association through a media statement on Wednesday and the team will be confirmed tomorrow in the presence of five team owners and representative of an independent auditor.

"Five teams are participating in this maiden SPL and now teams can select Cheteshwar Pujara for the SPL as he shall be available to play in the SPL," the statement read, reported PTI.

"The final decision about Pujara representing which team will be taken tomorrow (Thursday) in the presence of five teams owners and representative of independent auditor.

"Everyone involved in SPL is immensely happy that finally Cheteshwar got the window from his commitment to county cricket in England and has expressed his availability to participate in this T20 tournament," the release added.

Pujara, never a T20 natural, has scored a total of 1356 runs in 64 T20 matches at a strike rate of 109.35.
