Sunil Gavaskar has stated that it has been an exhilarating journey for the young Delhi Capitals side and itās a joy to watch the young guns bat. After beating Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Eliminator, Delhi Capitals will now battle it out against Chennai Super Kings in second Qualifier.
After making it to the playoffs for the first time since 2012, the young Delhi Capitals side are brimming with confidence and have done well to sculpt a spot in the second Qualifier. They stand an equal chance of winning the game and advancing to the final.Ā
Delhi Capitals have a fine mixture of experienced players and domestic talents, who have done well so far in the tournament. And former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar is stunned by Delhiās performance and has said that itās a joy to watch the young guns bat.Ā Ā
āItās been an exhilarating journey for the youthful Delhi team with some breathtaking performances and some forgettable blowouts. Their young batting talent is a joy to watch as with the fearlessness of the young, they play shots that are hard to believe,ā Gavaskar wrote in his column for The Times of India.Ā
While having a young side is always pleasing to watch, alongside that comes the inexperience to handle tough situations. But Gavaskar feels that the yuoung side is learning quickly from their mistakes and the way Keemo Paul kept his cool and carried the team over the line is an indication of the side learning quickly.Ā Ā
āItās also the restlessness of youth that then makes them indulge in a rush of blood shot that leads to their dismissal when a measured approach would have taken their team home without any tension. That is what experience teaches and what the Delhi team has shown is that it is learning and learning fast. The manner in which Keemo Paul kept his nerve against Hyderabad to take Delhi to the second qualifier showed that the youngsters are understanding the situation rapidly,ā he wrote.
MS Dhoniās ability to read the situation and make the changes is amazing. He has led the CSK side well over the years and has been equally effective across the venues. Gavaskar feels that MS Dhoni is the only cricketer after Kapil Dev and Sachin Tendulkar for whom every ground is like a home round.Ā Ā
"The one time Chennai seem to come to life is when MSD is at the crease. Before he starts to unwind those arms, he has unwound his legs with some of the most frenetic running one can hope to see. After Kapil Dev and Sachin Tendulkar, he is the one player for whom every venue is like home,ā he added.
