Mumbai Indians will be taking complete care of the Caribbean pacer Alzarri Joseph’s shoulder surgery and has also arranged for a rehab programme in Mumbai. Joseph played only three games for MI this season after suffering a mistimed injury during the encounter against Rajasthan Royals.

Joseph shot to limelight on his IPL debut by running through Sunrisers Hyderabad’s batting-order with some serious pace and control. He finished the game with best figures for an IPL debutant of six for 12. However, his good run came to an end when he dislocated his shoulder while fielding against Rajasthan Royals.

Joseph was named in the 15-man West Indies squad for the World Cup, but the extent of the injury is so serious that the lanky bowler was ruled out of the prestigious tournament let alone the remainder of the IPL. It’s a huge blow for West Indies as well as for the budding pacer to not feature in a tournament as big as the World Cup.

Joseph’s recovery is expected to take four to five months and MI have done a great gesture by taking complete care of the bowler till he is ready to bowl again. As per a report from IANS, MI will arrange the surgery after which, Joseph will be kept under scrutiny by their management in the team’s guest house in Navi Maumbai.

"He has been in Mumbai throughout and his situation was assessed and the surgery was done on April 30. He is currently recovering and has no movement on the shoulder as it is strapped. One of his family members is here to stay by his side. All his treatment and rehab will be taken care of by MI. He will be shifting to the MI guest house in Navi Mumbai and continue physiotherapy for the next two to three months at the Sir H. N. Reliance Foundation Hospital,” a source said, reported IANS.

"After this, he will undergo rehab and hit the ground at the Mumbai Indians academy. It should ideally take around four to five months and even his family member shall stay with him during this phase," the source added.

The source also emphasised on the fact how MI have treated their players as family. "Nita Ambani has always made it very clear that the players in this team are not just a bunch of cricketers representing Mumbai Indians, they are all part of the family."
