VVS Laxman has lauded MS Dhoni’s consistency for Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League and has stated that the team’s success in the final will hinge on the skipper massively. Dhoni has been the rock for CSK this season and has contributed massively to help his side reach the final.
Chennai Super Kings have made it to the finals on eight occasions in the history of Indian Premier League under MS Dhoni’s astute captaincy. The CSK skipper has been instrumental this season, scoring crucial runs and making bold calls as captain. Dhoni hails of a staggering average of 103 this season and has won games with his incredible hitting this season. Sunrisers Hyderabad mentor VVS Laxman has heaped praised on CSK’s consistency and pointed out the key attributes behind their success.Â
"Sunday's final in Hyderabad should be a cracker, though much will hinge on MS the batsman, the wicket-keeper and the captain. To reach the final of the Indian Premier League eight times in 10 editions is no mean accomplishment. Chennai Super Kings deserve all the accolades that have come their way for their extraordinary consistency, but there really is no secret to their success. One of the things CSK have stressed on is identifying the players who fit their team culture, and then backing them almost to a fault. When you know that you have the support of the think-tank, it can do wonders for the morale of a player," Laxman wrote in his column for TOI.Â
CSK roped in Dhoni as the skipper since the inception of the tournament back in 2008 and have trusted in his abilities. Dhoni has justified his move and repaid the faith with interest; his captaincy has been remarkable and has led the side with example. Also, CSK have stuck with Coach Stephen Fleming for nine seasons on the trot. Laxman has lauded CSK’s implementation and has stated that they have set the benchmark.Â
"The other aspect where CSK have set the benchmark is in allowing the professionals to run the cricketing side of things. Right from the beginning, MS Dhoni has been the leader in that sense, alongside Stephen Fleming, their coach for nine seasons. The franchise owners believe in the philosophy of strict non-interference in matters cricketing. As a concept, that is still in the process of evolution in the IPL. In CSK, however, it has been the norm from the beginning", Laxman wrote.Â
CSK will lock horns with MI in the final in Hyderabad on Sunday.
