David Warner has stated that the Indian Premier League is the best league in the world, in a recorded message after he received the Orange Cap for his 692 runs in just 12 matches for Sunrisers Hyderabad. The World Cup-bound Australian did not play in the last two league matches and the playoffs.
David Warner was awarded the Orange Cap for the third time, the highest in the history of the Indian Premier League. The Sunrisers Hyderabad opener amassed 692 runs at an astounding average and strike rate of 69.20 and 143.86 respectively, 99 runs higher than the next KL Rahul, despite just playing 12 innings. The World Cup-bound Australian had made his return to the game with this season of the cash-rich league and was all praise for it.
“It's an honour to win the Orange Cap. We batsmen don't play this game for awards, we try to win. Big credit to our curators at Hyderabad, they prepare great wickets and feels great to play in front of those crowds. I am privileged to be a part of this tournament, it's the best league in the world. Thank you very much,” he said in a recorded message at the post-match presentation ceremony, reported Cricbuzz.
All-rounder Andre Russell was also awarded the season’s 'Super Striker' Award as he blasted 510 runs at a strike rate of 204.81. Mumbai Indians’ Hardik Pandya missed out as his strike rate was 191.42. The hard-hitting West Indian was also awarded the 'Most Valuable Player' as he even picked 11 wickets in this season. He hoped that he would be present in person the next season, to get the award as well the keys to the car which he was awarded.
“I am very emotional to be a part of this. This contest has been going on back and forth, other guys have been going at it as well. Hopefully next season we go all the way and I can collect the keys myself,” signed off the 31-year-old.
