South African spearhead Kagiso Rabada is expected to recover on time before the upcoming World Cup while Dale Steyn and Lungi Ngidi’s participation is still under doubt. South Africa play their opening game against India on June 5 and the team will be hoping for their speedy recovery.

South Africa team doctor Mohammed Moosajee has confirmed that Kagiso Rabada will be fit for the upcoming World Cup in England and Wales. Rabada has been in red hot form and finished the IPL with second highest wicket-taker with 25 scalps in his kitty. In the business end of the tournament, Rabada was suffering through a stiff back after which, Cricket South Africa called him back as a precautionary measure.

“With KG (Rabada)‚ we are extra cautious because of two reasons. He had a back issue that kept him out of the game for a protracted amount of time. Secondly‚ there’s his importance in the squad‚ so we’re managing his rehab and his return to play very carefully,” Moosajee said, reported Cricket South Africa’s website.

Rabada is expected to recover in two to three weeks of time, confirmed the doctor. “The anticipated recovery period for KG’s injury is two to three weeks and we are hopeful he’ll make a full recovery to be part of the World Cup squad.”

Another concern that looms over South Africa is the participation of Dale Steyn and Lungi Ngidi in the World Cup. Steyn suffered a side strain during the IPL while Ngidi pulled a side strain. The doctor has not yet confirmed a particular date for their recovery, however, the duo will be travelling to England with the squad.

“The selectors have ensured they have enough options on the table but there are some players that have been earmarked as standby players."
