ICC world Cup 2019 | India have got enough talent to deliver under pressure, claims Virender Sehwag
Virender Sehwag is confident that the current Indian team can emerge as champions in the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup which will be played in England & Wales from May 30 onwards. The former India opener also tagged hostsā England, Australia and West Indies as the other contenders for the title.
The Indian cricket team has had a brilliant 2018 season which saw them register ODI series wins against Australia, South Africa and West Indies. They have made their way up the ICC ODI ranking table and currently occupy the second spot behind leaders England who ran out 2-1 winners when India toured the United Kingdom last year.
Virat Kohli & Co. will undoubtedly be one of the favorites to win the ICC ODI World Cup trophy in the coming months as they head to England for the global showdown against the best teams in the world. Former India opener Virender Sehwag remains confident that the Indian team have enough talent to deliver under pressure.
"We had excellent batting depth in our squad in 2011. Even if we lost a few early wickets, the others would step up and take the team to distance.
"We have got a solid team. If our guys can play normal cricket, India can emerge champions. We have got enough talent to deliver under pressure. I am sure the intensity of the World Cup will bring out the best in everyone," Sehwag said in a recent interview with TOI.
Sehwag, who played 251 ODIās for India, labeled hostsā England, defending champions Australia and West Indies as the other teams in contention to win the World Cup over the course of the next month or so.
"West Indies have started playing well all of a sudden. They have got tremendous power-hitters. South Africa have never won a World Cup. They could shed the tag of chokers here. Australia, with Smith and Warner back, are real contenders now. And what about the hosts. After the 2015 World Cup, under captain Eoin Morgan and coach Trevor Bayliss, they have reinvented themselves in white-ball cricket. This could be their tournament. But as an Indian, I want India to win," the former Delhi cricketer added.
