Learnt a lot playing under Ricky Ponting and Sourav Ganguly, says Prithvi Shaw

Prithvi Shaw has mentioned that he learnt a lot while playing for Delhi Capitals under Ricky Ponting and Sourav Ganguly in this yearâs Indian Premier League. Ponting was the head coach of the side whereas Ganguly was the advisor and the duo backed the young batsman to play all the matches.
Prithvi Shaw had an inconsistent run in this yearâs Indian Premier League as he scored 353 runs for Delhi Capitals despite opening the batting for all the 16 matches. The talented batsman was still backed by the head coach Ricky Ponting and advisor Sourav Ganguly. Shaw revealed that the former captains of their respective national sides gave him advice on strategies and the mental aspect of the game.
âLearnt a lot playing under the legends Ricky Sir and Sourav Sir. Having played 15-20 years of international cricket, they have a lot experience all over the world. Itâs not about three-four things we are being taught, itâs more about mentally (being) over there,â he told the press on the sidelines of the ongoing T20 Mumbai league, reported PTI.
âThey wonât talk about technique or anything, it would be match by matchâŚwhat the plans and strategies are and not about our skills. Obviously when you are on that stage, you also know things and thatâs why you are here. So they helped us mentally, preparing us to be strong. Being a youngster and playing the IPL, it is a big thing for me. I would be nervous but because of them, they would help me calm down."
Shaw is the skipper of the North Mumbai Panthers in the ongoing T20 Mumbai League. The 2018 U-19 World Cup winning captain did not fail to acknowledge the fact that fielding is not one of his strengths but stated that he has been working on it. He also reckoned that he has done well for India in the two Tests he has played so far, with respect to his fielding.
âIt (fielding) is important in T20s. When I used to play U-14, U-16, I wasnât a good fielder even if I was the captain. I realised fielding is going (to play) a very important role if you want to play for India. And from there (on) I started working on it and I am pretty much doing well in Indian cricket,â explained the 19-year-old.
India opener Shikhar Dhawan was Shawâs opening partner in the cash-rich league whereas he has shared the dressing room with the India ODI vice-captain Rohit Sharma in his debut series against West Indies. The Mumbai batsman opened up about his camaraderie with the two.
âWhen I am playing with Shikhar bhai, I am comfortable with him and when I am playing with Rohit bhai I am comfortable with him as well. Playing with them is a big thing for me,â the Mumbai batsman signed off.
