Prithvi Shaw has stated that he feels India will win the upcoming World Cup in England and Wales this time. The Virat Kohli-led side is the second-ranked ODI team at the moment and is also billed as one of the favourites alongside hosts England and Australia to lift the trophy this year.
Prithvi Shaw had made his international debut in the Test series against the Windies in 2018 and scored a quickfire century in his very first innings followed by a fifty in the next. The youngster is yet to make a debut for India in the shorter formats and does not have any regrets for missing out on the World Cup starting May 30. He even feels that India is one of the best sides and will bring the trophy home this time.
"We have a wonderful team, arguably the best ODI side going around. I personally feel that the World Cup be ours this year. The selectors have named a balanced team. I wish the team all the best. I will pray for the team to bring the World Cup back home," said Shaw, reported India Today.
The 2018 U-19 World Cup Winning captain was just 15 years old when India won its second ever trophy in the showpiece event in 2011. Shaw recalled his memories with respect to the historic final triumph against Sri Lanka on April 2.
"During the 2011 World Cup, I was sitting at the Wankhede Stadium when India won. How can I tell you about my experience! I had never been to such a big match before. I went there for the first time for the final. The crowd and the response Sachin Tendulkar was receiving, the entire team, including MS Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh. The support helped the team a lot. To see people so happy after our win, it was a memorable experience for me," the youngster explained.
Shaw is currently plying his trade in the Mumbai T20 League and is also the skipper of North Mumbai Panthers. He credited Mumbai's cricket board for giving the opportunity for local players to play in such a competitive tournament.
"I look to play the same way wherever I play. It's not that I will play quite freely in Mumbai T20 League unlike how I used to play in the IPL. This is also a great platform for me. North Mumbai Panthers. I want to thank Mumbai Cricket Association for giving us a big opportunity. It's a big opportunity for everyone," expressed the 19-year-old.
The 47-year-old leg spinner Pravin Tambe, who made his IPL debut at the age of 41, is a part of Shaw’s Mumbai T20 League side and the youngster feels that he has to look nowhere else for inspiration.
"I look to gain experience wherever I play. In our team, we have Pravin Tambe sir. He is 47 and he is still looking to give his 100 percent. He is still this fit, so I am looking to give 200 percent when I am 19," Shaw signed off.
