Former Indian captain, Sourav Ganguly, while revealing his choice of new ball bowlers for Indian pace attack in the upcoming world Cup picked Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah. Shamiā€™s form in recent times has been outstanding whole Bhuvneshwar Kumar has looked ordinary with the leather in hand.

Shamiā€™s return to Indian ODI side has been impactful and has done reasonably well to cement his spot in the line-up. With Bhuvneshwar Kumar misfiring, Ganguly feels Shami should open the bowling for India alongside Jssprit Bumrah as the former has been in superb form. Ganguly also backed Bhuvneshwar to come back stronger but insisted that India should stick with the opening pair of Bumrah and Shami for the initial stages of the tournament.Ā

"Iā€™ll play Mohammad Shami. He has not only been good in the IPL but has been brilliant throughout the year for India. Bhuvneshwar Kumar has had a dip in form over the last 4-5 months. Iā€™m a fan of Bhuvi but itā€™s all about temperament and attitude. I believe he will come back stronger,ā€ Ganguly told India TV.

Hardik Pandya has developed as an all-rounder and has a knack of chipping key wickets. Ganguly further suggested that India should go ahead with the pace troika of Shami, Bumrah, and Hardik Pandya. He further revealed how Shami has developed his yorkers and along with Bumrah, the duo will hold the key for India in the death overs.Ā

ā€œIā€™ll want, at least in the initial stage of the tournament, to have Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Shami and Hardik Pandya in the pace attack. I talked to Zaheer Khan during the IPL, and he insisted that he hadnā€™t seen an Indian bowler performing like that in years, which makes Shami even more important. His death bowling has improved, especially the yorkers. Bumrah and Shami will be the key during the death overs,ā€ Ganguly added.
