The Indian Premier League (IPL) auction for the 13th season (2020) will be held on December 19 this year, with the venue for the same chosen as Kolkata, instead of Bengaluru. It is understood that this year’s auction will be the last small auction before franchises assemble fresh squads from 2021.

Ahead of the 13th edition of the most-watched T20 league in the world, there will be one small auction, ahead of a near-complete rebuild model auction. The last big auction took place in January 2018, ahead of the 11th edition, when franchises were allowed to retain only five players before building new squads. The current trading window, where franchises are allowed to make deals to exchange a player for another, will close on November 14.

For the upcoming auction, all the franchises were initially allotted Rs 85 crore to build their teams. However, as per a report on ESPNCricinfo, every franchise will also have an additional budget of Rs 3 crore, which is in addition to the balance in their kitties from the last auction.

The report also mentions the balances each team holds: Delhi Capitals (Rs 8.2 crore), Rajasthan Royals (Rs 7.15 crore), Kolkata Knight Riders (Rs 6.05 crore), Sunrisers Hyderabad (Rs 5.3 crore), Kings XI Punjab (Rs 3.7 crore), Chennai Super Kings (Rs 3.2 crore), Mumbai Indians (Rs 3.05 crore), and Royal Challengers Bangalore (Rs 1.8 crore).
