No question of Ravi Shastri's appointment coming under the scanner, says Vinod Rai
Committee of Administrators (CoA) chairman Vinod Rai has dismissed reports suggesting that India head coach Ravi Shastri’s appointment could come under scanner if the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) is found conflicted. The three-member CAC panel had reappointed Shastri just last month.
When Retd. Justice DK Jain, BCCI’s ethics officer, served conflict of interest notices to all CAC members — Kapil Dev, Anshuman Gaekwad and Shantha Rangaswamy — on Saturday, some reports had claimed that Shastri’s reappointment may very well come under the scanner. However, Vinod Rai has cleared the air on the matter, dismissing any uncertainty surrounding the incident.
“There is no such question,” CoA chief, Vinod Rai, told Sportstar on Sunday, clearing all uncertainty on the matter.
The same was confirmed by Ravindra Thodge, another member of the CoA.
“Before forming the CAC, we had asked the members to submit ‘No Conflict of Interest’ declarations and there was no conflict found by the BCCI,” Thodge said.
“The CAC was appointed only for one particular purpose and as far as Shastri’s appointment is concerned, it has been done legally and we have already given him a contract, so there’s no question of any changes now,” Thodge added.
Kapil, Gaekwad and Rangaswamy were named in the Cricket Advisory Committee in place of Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar, and VVS Laxman, who refused to be part of the process for selecting a coach for the Indian women’s team, last year. The then newly formed committee conducted interviews and eventually named WV Raman as the head coach of the women's team.
