Anil Kumble is in talks with Kings XI Punjab team for the coaching role after Mike Hesson parted ways with the franchise to take over Royal Challengers Bangalore director role. Mohit Burman, Ness Wadia and Preity Zinta, the main owners of the team, are likely to be part of the meeting with Kumble.

Anil Kumble's coaching career came to an abrupt end with a controversy between him and Virat Kohli. Kumble resigned form his role and instead of looking for other opportunities in the coaching field, he acted as a TV pundit and a commentator for Select Dugout, a Star Sports show for T20s. However, Mumbai Mirror has reported that Kumble is in the race forĀ Kings XI Punjab and if everything works out, he may take over the Indian Premier League (IPL) side from Mohali.Ā

Kumble may even meet the franchise owners and a final decision could be taken if there is a consensus all-round. As per the Mirror report, Mohit Burman, Ness Wadia, and Preity Zinta are likely to be part of the meeting with Kumble. The contentious issue before everyone is the way to take the side forward and the time needed to revive the franchise which has, largely, been underperforming in the IPL.

Kumble is known for his rigid approach and that, at times, seemed to reap dividends as clear from the performance of the Indian team during his tenure and Mumbai Indians' championship run in 2015. The paper has also reported that Andy Flower and Darren Lehmann are in the shortlist for the same role while George Bailey has been offered the batting coach job. The Australian is understood to have accepted it.Ā
