In the first update to the ICC ODI women’s rankings, India has widened the gap over England from one to three points. While the West Indies have lost five points, leaving them just two points ahead of Pakistan in seventh place, Australia retained their lead 26 points over India in the top spot.

The women’s global T20I rankings were introduced in October last year, which led to separate rankings for the two white-ball formats. Australia maintained their lead in the top spot over India for ODIs and has done even better in the shorter format. In T20s, they have increased their lead over England from 1o to 14 points in the ICC Women’s T20I Player rankings, after their ICC World T20 triumph in the Caribbean.

The T20 rankings table has seen an increase from 46 to 55 teams over the past year, with Thailand moving to within four points of 10th placed Ireland. Thailand, who played the most T20Is in this period with 25 matches (winning 21 of them), had a remarkable run winning a world record 17 consecutive matches, breaking the previous record of 16 consecutive wins by Australia. They have also — for the first time in the country’s history — qualified for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2020 in Australia.

Meanwhile, both Denmark (40th) and Mexico (41st) have gained eight points each — making them the biggest gainers — while Ireland and Singapore have lost seven points each. As per the IANS report, the last 12 months has seen a 60% increase — 265 matches played by 50 countries — in the number of T20Is played compared to the previous 12-month period.
