Reminiscing his tough childhood days, Jasprit Bumrah revealed, on Wednesday, that there was a time when he could only afford just one pair of shoes and a T-shirt. Bumrah, who is out of action due to a stress fracture in his lower back, admitted that such tough situations only makes him stronger.

Long before he became India’s leading bowler across formats, Bumrah endured some difficult times after the death of his father, when he was just a five-year-old boy.

“After that, we couldn’t afford anything. I had one pair of shoes. I used to have one pair of T-shirt. I used to wash them every day and use it again and again. So, as a child, you know you hear stories that sometimes these things happen that some people come and watch you and you get picked up like this. But it actually happened,” Bumrah was quoted saying by Scroll.

In a video posted by his IPL franchise, Mumbai Indians, on Twitter, his mother, Daljit Bumrah, recalls his debut in the 2013 edition.

“The first time when I saw him in that IPL match on TV, I couldn’t stop crying. He has seen me struggle financially and physically also,” Daljit recalled.

The 25-year-old’s career rocketed from there on, as he scaled the pinnacle of the ODI bowling charts in six years and holds the No.3 spot amongst the Test bowlers as well. Currently, the Gujarat pacer is in London to treat his injury

“All these tough times make you stronger because you’ve seen tougher days before,” he added.
