It is not often that you see batsmen stand their ground in disbelief after getting dismissed like Quinton de Kock did today. Batting on 31, De Kock was castled by an absolute peach by Ashwin and such was the quality of the delivery that de Kock stood his ground refusing to believe he was out.

After all five batsmen above him were bizarrely dismissed by pacers, the onus was on the shoulders of Quinton de Kock to steady ship for his team alongside his skipper Faf du Plessis. After starting cautiously, the wicket-keeper batsman slowly got into his groove and in no time, started nonchalantly dispatching the spinners to the boundary. Having struck seven boundaries in his first 47 balls, it looked like the writing was on the wall for yet another big score from the southpaw. At one point, it looked like the only way of getting him out was through a moment of magic, and well, Ravichandran Ashwin did just that.

On the final ball of the 38th over, with the pitch not offering enormous turn, Ashwin bowled a good-length delivery to de Kock, which the left-hander tried to nudge towards the on-side. However, to his dismay, the ball beat his outside-edge and instead clipped the bails. The Indians erupted in joy and started celebrating the wicket but de Kock, who had no idea he’d gotten out, refused to believe that he was bowled and stood his ground for a good minute. It wasn’t until after umpire Chris Gaffney intervened that de Kock finally accepted his dismissal and even while walking back, he was in a state of shock. A truly magical delivery from Ashwin indeed.

Here is how Twitter reacted to the incident:

Hahaha!! That was a beauty from Ravi Ashwin!

Quinton de Kock was well set but it was a brilliant delivery by Ashwin!

Let's hope he bounces back!

Indeed, it is depressing to see the Proteas pose no fight!

South Africa are in deep trouble!
