IND v SA | Two of my wickets should really go down as Wriddhiman Saha’s, says Umesh Yadav
Indian fast bowler Umesh Yadav reckons that two of his six wickets in his comeback Test — both caught down the leg-side — should be credited to wicket-keeper Wriddhiman Saha. Yadav impressed one and all on his comeback into the national team, as India crushed South Africa by an innings and 137 runs.
Ishant Sharma removed Aiden Markram for nought — albeit off a wrong decision — to start off India’s march to victory after enforcing the follow-on at the start of day four. Then, in the sixth over, Yadav angled one down the leg-side and caught Theunis de Bruyn’s edge on the way. It looked like a certain boundary, but for a flying one-handed stunner from Saha to intercept its path. Late in the innings, Yadav returned to remove Vernon Philander — also caught down the leg-side by Saha.
“I think I should treat him for those wickets down leg-side and that first catch, and I think they are Saha's wickets. I thought they were going for boundaries, that's always the thought when it's down leg-side, but I was thanking God and Saha that I got those wickets,” Yadav said after the match, reported Cricbuzz.
After a long hiatus from the Indian team, Yadav found his way back into the side due to Jasprit Bumrah’s injury. Although lucky on two or three occasions, he seemed to have found his rhythm again and ended up with three wickets apiece in either innings as India settled the series 2-0 in Pune.
“There is a healthy competition in the side, and I knew that if I get a chance, I had to grab it. I had taken 10 wickets in the last home match in Hyderabad (2018 vs West Indies), and I was confident about bowling in India. I had a good mindset and I was happy that I executed my skills on the ground,” Yadav added.
