Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh, who bizarrely broke his hand after slamming it into a wall out of frustration, has revealed that coach Justin Langer called him an idiot for doing so. Marsh now faces up to six weeks on the sidelines and is set to miss the start of Australia's Test summer.

After admitting that he was 'disliked' by the Australian general public, Mitchell Marsh played his part in trying to win them over by claiming his maiden five-wicket haul in the fifth Ashes Test at The Oval. It felt like things were finally falling in place for the all-rounder and with Sheffield Shield cricket stacked up ahead of the Australian Test summer, the 27-year-old was expected to push his case for selection with both bat and ball for Western Australia.

But in a bizarre turn of events, the all-rounder is now all set to miss up to six weeks of action after breaking his right hand. During Western Australia's match against Tasmania last week, Marsh, after getting out, punched the wall in anger and frustration and to his dismay, ended up doing serious damage as scans revealed that he had ended up breaking it. He has now revealed that coach Justin Langer called him an "idiot" for doing what he did and assured that this incident will be the last of its kind.

"He just told me I'm an idiot basically. He was disappointed for me. It certainly will be an isolated incident, that's for sure, and it won't be happening again," Marsh was quoted as saying by ESPN Cricinfo.

The freak injury means that Marsh is set to miss up to six weeks on the sidelines, meaning he will all but miss Australia's first Test of the summer against Pakistan. The all-rounder expressed his disappointment over his own actions and said that he felt like he let his teammates down and set a bad example by letting his emotions get the better of him.

"It's pretty uncharacteristic of me to want to punch a wall. I'm a pretty easy-going sort of bloke. "I'm just disappointed really, gutted. The feeling of letting your team-mates down and not being able to be a part of the journey for the next four to six weeks, that was the point I wanted to stress to the lads, that I was really sorry and it's not an example I wanted to be setting. They got around me. They still love me, so it's all good," the 27-year-old said.

Australia will take on Pakistan in the first Test of the summer at GABBA on November 21.
