Diana Edulji and Shantha Rangaswamy question staff appointments in Women's cricket
CoA member Diana Edulji and Apex Council member Shantha Rangaswamy approached BCCI CEO Rahul Johri questioning the appointment of staff members for the Indian women's cricket team asking whether the men's team would have got the same treatment. Saba Karim is the man responsible for the appointments.
Diana Edulji, who is a member of the CoA and Shantha Rangaswamy, who is the member of BCCI's Apex Council, have questioned the appointments made for the posts of the management staff of the Indian women's cricket team. They have written a letter to BCCI CEO Rahul Johri over the strange appointments and hinted partiality towards the men's team saying that had the men's team needed coaching staff, the appointments would have been of better quality. A selection panel led by Hemlata Kalal had written to the BCCI a day before that they were deliberately kept out of the hiring process.
"I am shocked reading the article quoting the e-mail from women selectors to you regarding the sham process being followed for selection of the video analyst," Edulji wrote in her letter.
"It is even more worrisome that the person Mr. Pushkar Sawant, wanted by Saba Karim (GM cricket operations) and NCA is already booked on the flight to West Indies. The whole process looks like an eyewash," she added.
The selection panel claimed that they were not even considered in the reckoning for the position of bowling and fielding coach and that the video analyst interview was just a formality as Mr. Pushkar Sawant was already named to tour West Indies with the Indian women's team.
"I am marking this to my colleagues so that they are aware of what is happening behind the CoA's back. I will not be giving my consent to this sham interview that is taking place today for the video analyst as Mr. Pushkar Sawant has already been nominated for the tour," wrote Edulji.
She ended up questioning the ability of the BCCI members to give equal treatment to both men's and women's teams. She deemed this behaviour to be disrespectful towards the women's team.
"This is the national Indian Team that is travelling and such shabby treatment is being doled out to them. I wonder if you would do this to the men's team," she wrote.
