Steve Smith is not your regular superstar and he won’t let you have the fun - be it batting or fielding - before making you go crazy during the process. Today, after Pat Cummins extracted an edge off Joe Denly, Smith gave everyone a scare by wobbling thrice at slip before he held on to it.

It is Steve Smith’s world and we, mere mortals, are just living in it. He does what he wants, he pulls off what - add an F-word if you can - he wants to and we will watch it as spectators not having any idea of what is eventually transpiring. As Australia decided to bowl first, Smith had to delay his batting but boy you can’t keep him out of the action, can you?

On the third ball of the ninth over, Cummins bowled a length delivery that nibbled away from Joe Denly. The English batsman had the opportunity of just guiding with the full face of a bat but he made a judgmental error and pushed it forward. That turned out to be the biggest error as the leading edge went towards Steve Smith at slip who had a straightforward chance of grabbing that up.

However, wouldn’t it have been very unlike Steve Smith had he caught that in one go? He is after all made unorthodox batting look cool and did pull that off yet again, and this time, on the field. He fumbled three times before sending the Kent man his way to the pavilion. It was cool from Smith. Wasn’t it?
