Malolan Rangarajan, who recently left Uttarakhand to play for his home state Tamil Nadu, has been appointed as the head of talent scouting wing for Royal Challengers Bangalore. The move has also meant that Rangarajan will also have to call time on his career as a professional cricketer.

After BCCI granted the first-class status to many teams of north-east and Uttarakhand, players from different parts of the country started turning up for them as professional players and Malolan Rangarajan, after seeing his career being stalled due to the emergence of Washington Sundar in Tamil Nadu cricket, moved to Uttarakhand as well.

However, the controversy of a four-way dispute among Uttarakhand Cricket Association, United Cricket Association, Uttaranchal Cricket Association and Cricket Association of Uttarakhand (CAU) led to lack of communication and Rangarajan, who had played nine games for the North Indian team and picked up 17 wickets in the Ranji Trophy last year, decided to move away from the circus and returned to Tamil Nadu for the 2019-20 domestic season. Now, another twist came in the tale as he will now head the talent scouting wing for Royal Challengers Bangalore which effectively means he will have to call time on his career as a cricketer.

“The break at RCB is a very good opportunity for me. I can build on that. You see in 2016-17, I played only four Ranji games for Tamil Nadu. In 2017-18, it was just one. Then last season I played for Uttarakhand but got to know that they were going in for a left-arm spinner this season. Looking at the schedule, R. Ashwin should be available for the entire Ranji season this year. And Washington Sundar too will be there for most games. I don’t see myself getting too many opportunities,” Rangarajan told Sportstar.

Although he hasn't his retirement officially, he believes the decision to become a talent scout is a pathway to becoming a coach of a team in the future. “I will take a call if I am picked but You know what my answer would be.”
