Mumbai-born Aditya Mehta registered a memorable win against the legendary Pankaj Advani in a best of 13 frames final to lift the Cricket Club of India (CCI) snooker championship trophy on Tuesday. Advani was full of praise for Mehta who fought his way to a hard-fought victory while trailing 3-1.

Pankaj Advani is undoubtedly one of the greatest talents to have come out of India in snooker in history. Advani is a 21-time World Champion and was recently honoured with the Padma Bhushan award earlier this year as well. Hence, to come from 3-1 down and beat Advani is no small feat, something that Mumbai’s Aditya Mehta is well aware of.

Mehta played the match of his life in the final of the Cricket Club of India Championship as he won six frames in a row to defeat Advani 7-3 (62-60, 0-91, 38-63, 37-70, 74-39, 79-7, 62-59, 84-13, 72-13, 65-19) in a best-of-13 frames and lift the CCI snooker championship trophy on Tuesday.

“I don’t think I have ever won six frames on the trot against Pankaj,” Mehta told TOI reporters after the match.

The Mumbai-born player bagged home a smooth Rs 2 lakhs for his heroics. Advani, who took home Rs 1,30,000, lavished praise on his opponent as he gave Mehta full credit for turning the match around

“He held his nerves better and deserved to win,” said Advani. “I think I lost the match in two frames. In the first when I was leading by 60 points and he managed to steal that from me. Then in the seventh frame when we were 3-3 and I was leading by 40 points, he came up with a superb performance to win it. Those were the turning points,” Advani added.
