West Ham United have been rocked by Dimitri Payet’s transfer request just 11 months after he signed a new contract with the Premier League club. West Ham United manager Slaven Bilic is ‘angry’ about the whole situation but has refused to budge under pressure from the French international.

Payet moved to the London-based club from Marseille in 2015 before going on to win the club’s player of the year award after a sensational 2015-16 season. The 29-year-old was also a key figure in France’s Euro 2016 squad which reached the final of the tournament, where they lost to Portugal.

However, Payet has not been able to replicate his form this season, and West Ham United are currently loitering at 13th spot in the points table. The Frenchman’s head has been turned by interest coming in from French champions PSG, along with interests from a few Chinese clubs as well.

This team, the staff, we gave him everything, we were always there for him. I feel let down. I feel angry.

In the last winter's transfer window, West Ham gave him a bumper new deal to ward off interests from China, just six months after the player had joined them. However, it seems like that contract might not be enough to tie him down with the Frenchman expressing his desire the leave.

"Let’s get serious. I have a situation with a player. It is Dimitri Payet. He wants to leave.

“We have said we don’t want to sell our best players but Payet does not want to play for us. He wants to leave. We are not going to sell him. This team, the staff, we gave him everything, we were always there for him. I feel let down. I feel angry. I spoke to the chairman and this is not a money issue. We gave him a long contract because we want him to stay.

“We aren’t going to sell him, not whatsoever. It’s not a money issue or anything. We want to keep our best players. I expect from him to come back and to show commitment and determination to the team like the team has shown to him,” Bilic said, reported the Guardian.

Losing Payet at this point of the season will be a big blow to Bilic’s men, as they are unlikely to find any suitable replacement. However, keeping an unhappy player at the club might not work out as well.
